Ivana Martić, artist’s statement

  • “Research of visual elements and materials whose ultimate goal is the achievement of good in harmony and contrasts, is actually endless fascination that the complexity of the works of art and applied art rests on a few basic shapes and colors, as well as on the fact that the number of diverse compounds of these forms is infinite”.
  • “There is a way to achieve magic of beauty in art and life – it is always a moment that takes our breath as emotional convey of ourselves or whatever holds a value of it – sometimes it’s about artwork that chooses us or when we choose art work. The ability to arouse emotions in the viewer is art itself – expression withing object and paintings emerges from feelings.“

Tamara Kusovac, designer and painter, was born in 1970 in Belgrade, where she lives and works. She graduated from the Higher School of Fine and Applied Arts in 1992 in Belgrade in the class of Prof. Batomir Barugdzic. She worked for twenty years in the company Dekus for the production of furniture as an interior consultant, where she also painted objects. She is a member of ULUPUDS (The Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia).

For decades, she has been painting on canvas, glass, ceramics, wood, furniture, making Easter eggs, souvenirs with Belgrade motifs, she is the creator of the figure of the owl - the guardian of the house, as well as the founder of a new direction in painting, that critics called an urban naive.

Tamara Kusovac's works resonate with fullness of life, dynamic music of colors and sophistication of feminine artistic expression. Shapes and surfaces are filled with fantastic worlds that open the door to the beauty of creation as a procedure for oneself and enchanting speech whose source is naturalness, sensuality and sincerity. In her new creative chapter, she replaced her long-term orientation to architecture in her works, both as a thematic content and as an artistic and constructive means of controlling always well-balanced zones on one surface, with an abstract painting that is still symbolically and materially connected to the figurative.

She won the award at the souvenir competition in the city of Dimitrovgrad. Since 1996. he is a permanent associate of the Cultural Center of Belgrade. She had several group exhibitions and six solo ones. She is the organizer and participant in humanitarian exhibitions (help to the Japanese people after the tsunami 2011), several times the organizer and participant of the exhibition to help children suffering from malignant diseases Nurdor.
